What does the Tailgate do?
It gives a load something to stop against at the back of the Hauler when using as a flatbed with the SmartDeck. Pulling leans cargo rearward, especially on a slope—loose items find the back edge on their own. The Tailgate is where they stop instead. It also gives a taller stack something to lean on, so larger items can ride higher on an open deck.
Do I need one if I have the Hauler Rack?
No—a Tailgate is included with the Hauler Rack.
How is this different from a bungee or a Tie Down?
Different jobs. The Tailgate keeps a load from moving backward when Hauler is pulled or on a hill. Bungees and Tie Downs, on the other hand, hold the load down. With a fully loaded Hauler, you'll usually want both.
Can I mount accessories to it?
Yes. It's a round tube, so clamp-style holders grip it directly: rod holders, umbrella mounts, cup holders and similar third-party gear.
Does the Tailgate fit Cruiser?
No, it's made for the Hauler. It is, however, the part that lets a Cruiser Rack mount to Hauler, so if you already own the Rack for your Cruiser, the Tailgate is all you need to attach it to your Hauler.
